How we research

What counts as a source and how each fact is checked before and after publication.

Which sources count

We start from primary sources: the rules, guidelines and notes that institutions publish themselves, the judgments that courts issue, and legislation from its official site. Where we cannot open a primary source, we may rely on a secondary one, such as a law firm’s note or a news report. Secondary sources are labelled as secondary in every Sources list, and the text says who reported the fact.

How a fact is checked

Before a page is published, a person checks its dates, titles, article and paragraph numbers and quotations against the sources. Each source in a Sources list shows the date it was last opened. Where a source could not be opened directly, its entry says where the text was read instead. Anything we could not confirm is either left out or marked as reported rather than confirmed.

We describe what a text says in our own words and keep quotations short. We do not draw legal conclusions beyond what a rule or a judgment says, and nothing in the library is legal advice.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to help find sources, compare texts and draft. A person reviews every page before it is published, and the checking described above is done against the sources themselves, not against an AI summary of them.

How often pages are reviewed

Trackers are reviewed every month and other pieces every quarter. Each page shows when it was last reviewed. A substantive change is logged with its date in the page’s changelog, and a correction is also listed on the corrections page.

Using the tracker data

The AI rules tracker can be downloaded as a CSV file built from the same data as the page. It is encoded as UTF-8 with a byte order mark, so it opens cleanly in Excel. In pandas or R, read it as utf-8-sig. Quoted text in it stays with its owners.

Why there are no personal bylines

Everything in the library is published by SpyroLex as a company, and SpyroLex is responsible for it. SpyroLex is part of Spyrosoft Group.
